Tighe O'Donoghue, American (1942 - )
Tighe O’Donoghue/Ross was born in New York City in 1942. He received hisB.F.A. and M.F.A. at New York University, graduatingmagna cum laude. He is a world renowned printmaker and sculptor whose workis in the permanent collections of such prestigious institutions as TheVictoria and Albert Museum in London, TheBrooklyn Museum in New York, the SmithsonianNational Collection of Fine Art in Washington, D.C. and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. He is an American and an Irishcitizen, living with his family in County Kerry for the past 20years.
O’Donoghue/Ross’ oeuvre is full of symbol and surrealism, hisimagery playful, yet profound. Many of his images contain allusions toIrish and Celtic myths, but he gleans material from all faiths, mythologies andphilosophies when compiling his surreal World of O'Donoghue/Ross.
He is unusual in being adept at numerous media, from paintingto sculpture, etching/aquatint/mezzotint/engraving to watercolour. He has been creatingdigital images for a number of years now, and has reached a mastery of themedium in a way few other artists have attained.
